Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has long been regarded as a critical catalyst for economic development in developing economies. By facilitating capital inflows, technology transfer, managerial expertise, and access to international markets, FDI plays a significant role in accelerating economic growth and structural transformation. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of foreign direct investment and its impact on developing economies. It examines the theoretical foundations of FDI, its key determinants, and its effects on economic growth, employment generation, industrial development, and balance of payments. The study also critically evaluates potential risks associated with FDI, including market dominance, profit repatriation, and environmental concerns. The paper concludes that while FDI can significantly enhance development outcomes, its effectiveness depends on host country policies, institutional quality, and absorptive capacity.
